Four Walker Metalsmiths interns and helpers get their diplomas

In our modern world many find it amazing that small schools like Andover Central School still exist. ACS is a rural public school that typically graduates about thirty students in a year. Steve Walker, Walker Metalsmiths founder, is an alumnus. The school still has everything from pre-school to High School all in one building with a student population less than 400.

But don’t let size fool you. Students from this place continue to be accepted at many excellent colleges and go on to careers both locally and “out in the world”. We are very proud of our graduates in the past and have every expectation that Elizabeth, Rachel, Lexi and Stephen will go on to do wonderful things with their lives.

Elizabeth is the valedictorian of the class. She has been an intern at Walker Metalsmiths for the past year, following her older brothers Jesse and Abram, who also have been worked for Walkers for several years. Elizabeth will be attending Alfred State College to study nursing.

Rachel has also been an intern for her senior year. She is a talented painter and art major. She was honored with the Class of 1975 Award for Arts and Creativity. Rachel will be attending Finger Lakes Community College in the Fall to study fine arts.

Lexi has helped out at Walker Metalsmiths for several years on a part time basis. She has always been a quick learner and could fill in where and whenever she was needed. Lexi is the salutatorian of the Class of 2017. She will be studying psychology at SUNY Geneseo with the intention of going on to law school.

Stephen, son of Steve and Sue Walker, has been involved with Walker Metalsmiths since he was born. In fact his parents stopped at the workshop to show him off before they went home from the hospital. Stephen has worked in many aspects of the business, from the work bench to the sales room. Stephen will be attending Syracuse University to study mechanical engineering. He will be the third generation of Walkers at SU. Steve and Sue are both graduates of the Class of 1980. Steve’s father and brother are also SU alumni.

Stephen is the last of the Walker’s six children to graduate from high school at ACS and head off to college. But now daughter Jeannie, who formerly ran the Fairport location for Walker Metalsmiths, has brought her husband and twin daughters back to live in Andover. Without skipping a single year since 1986, the family will continue to have children enrolled in Andover Central School.

Learning the Art and Mystery of the Craft; Newest Jeweler Sydney Gallo Graduates Apprenticeship

Sydney Gallo has completed her apprenticeship at Walker Metalsmiths and has graduated as a full-fledged jeweler. The timing of her graduation enabled her to have the opportunity to exhibit her thesis jewelry at the 2nd International Day of Celtic Art Conference in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland in early June.
